Last morning in Key West.

Woke up to the sound of rain on the tin roof of our little cottage this morning. Not worried about it, as rain comes and goes here all the time and it should not affect my travel. Well I should say that it should not affect my travel anymore than Southwest Airlines and their crummy schedule. Ha ha! Went out to the end of the dock this morning and saw a beautiful sunrise and now it's time to pack up get my lobsters on ice and head for the airport at 11. I really would love to stay a week longer week, send for the family, relax enjoy and chill out. But reality calls!!!
Thank you to Steven and his girlfriend for providing a fantastic trip for me. They were extremely gracious and Steven is fantastic teacher of the art of boating fishing and lobstering.
This is RJ saying "over and out",
Blog you at the next vacation!!

Dinner in Cuba

After cleaning up from our amazing dive, we went down town Key West and found a Cuban restaurant for dinner. It seemed only fitting now that the USA is friends with Cuba again, to go have some Cuban food for for our last night feast. No trip to Key West is complete, without a nice slice of Keylime pie! The food turned out to be fantastic and after walking around the crazy Duval Street, which is much like New Orleans, we headed back and crashed exhausted. Time to pack up and get ready to go back to San Diego.

Final dive of the trip!

We headed out yesterday after lunch for the final dive of the trip. The Air and water were perfectly still and the water was as clear as could be. I finally got my GoPro working. The extended battery I had purchased did not seal properly and kept turning it off. Going back to the original set up in a little bit of black tape, I had a perfectly working GoPro for the start of this final dive. Steven and I caught another 12 lobsters with some big boys that got away. I got some amazing footage of lobsters in action, tropical fish and even a bonnet head shark that kept following me around as if I might be his new day meal. Good luck with that boy, I've got a big knife! So with Steven back up on the boat, I chose to stay down for another 20 minutes and film as much as I could until I ran out of ST card. Just when I was going to come up, I saw a pair of tentacles poking out of the hole and went to investigate. It was a very good size legal lobster, and I teased him out of the hole with the go Pro. We proceeded to have a little tug-of-war with the GoPro. thinking it was something edible. And then he scooted back in his home. Then something amazing happened! A tickle stick dropped into the sand right before me and a net fell next to it. At this point I knew there was a lobster God! They were actually sent down by Stevens girlfriend, who had seen the battle well floating on the surface with her mask and snorkel. So I picked them up and without my mentor by my side, decided to get this guy myself. At the same time, the bonnet shark came back and was circling me interested in what I was trying to do. He was about 2 1/2 or 3 feet and no real threat, but it did add to the excitement. So using the skills I learned from Steven over the last few days, I tickled the lobster out of the hole and caught him in then net. I triumphantly rose to the surface and showed Steven my catch. This was my final exam in lobstering, and I passed. What an amazing afternoon. I can't wait to get the video off of the GoPro and see how good it looks. I will post some on the blog and send out emails to remind yall to take a look.
That was the best ending to a lobster trip I can imagine.

Amazing time today!!!!

A few hours in the Key West
water with Steven was worth all the hassle yesterday on the planes. I caught my limit of 6 lobster and the weather was amazing!!! We ate part of our catch for dinner and it was amazing!!! Now it's time to sleep and get up and do it again!! Whoo hoo!

Finally the head hits the pillow!

2:00 am Florida time I finally made it to my hotel that Amy booked me near the airport in ft Lauderdale. What a day! Glad I don't travel for a living. Got a solid 6 hours of sleep and am heading to breakdast and to do Tai Chi by the pool. I leave for key west at 2:00, so I might as well get the most out it the hotel I paid for since it's too far to go visit my relatives near Palm Beach.

Relaxing snooze by the pool!

Had a nice mid morning snooze by the Sheraton pool and now at the airport waiting for my ONTIME flight to Key West!! Nothing like a Shocktop to ease the jitters of flying on a rubberband plane the size if a pack of gum over a large body of water!! Haha!
Next post from Key West...Finally!!!!
